In order to increase its intervention capacity, the ITMI establishes partnerships with external organizations, either through the agreement of formal collaboration or in the context of joined projects. These organizations are primaril companies, College Centres for the Transfer of Technologies (CCTT), governmental or private research centers and universities or college research institutes. The ITMI favors business partnerships with SMEs, consulting engineering firms, equipment and technology providers for modeling and simulation.

TransNord is a strategic alliance that aims to federate the resources of five CCTTs in the context of the challenge posed by the development of the North of the province of Quebec. Besides the ITMI, which is the leader of the alliance, the latter includes the following CCTT:
